Save As

The first thing you will want to do after scanning an image or negative into Photoshop is to save it. This solidifies it onto the desktop so that it's not still in it's "virtual file" state. In Photoshop, go to File > Save As...

Photoshop Format

The Save As dialog box will then open up. Make sure to save your image as a .psd, Photoshop's native file format.

Check Color Profile

Towards the bottom of this dialog, also make sure that you save it with it's Embeded Color Profile. Make sure that is has the correct color profile. We recommend Adobe RGB 1998 or ProPhoto RGB. Save it with layers, if the image currently has layers.

Save To Desktop

Finally make sure you save it to the Desktop of the computer when working at the lab here at school, and then transfer it to your own file storage after that or after you've worked on it.
Click Save to finish this dialog.
