Camera Raw Vibrance

Adjusting the Vibrance of an image in Camera Raw.

Vibrance

"Vibrance- Adjusts the saturation so that clipping is minimized as colors approach full saturation, changing the saturation of all lower-saturated colors with less effect on the higher-saturated colors. Vibrance also prevents skin tones from becoming oversaturated." www.adobe.com

Vibrance is very similar to Saturation, in that it will boost your colors. The main difference is that you have the ability with Vibrance to boost your colors and bring them closer to primary colors without recieving any color clipping in the process. A good way to see an example of this is to boost up the Saturation all the way to 100% and take a look at the image. In this image we're using here, the depth and tonal range is lost in the red dress (along with other areas in the image) as Saturation increases. Now if we bring saturation back down to 0, and increase Clarity, we notice that the Saturation of the image increases, but the tonal ranges within the red dress are not lost. This is a great method for increasing saturation of an image for a more photographic appeal rather than blowing out colors by using Saturation first.
